SO DAMN CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE.

It’s time to pour your last drink and watch that sun come up, because anonymous LA production maestro ZHU has just taken London Grammar’s 2013 standout “Strong” and flipped it ever-so-gently into a silvery, intoxicated turn-down anthem for the ages. ZHU extracts and amplifies the trip-hop threads that flicker quietly in London Grammar’s haunted, cinematic oeuvre, and dials the beat up until it matches the otherworldly power of Hannah Reid’s voice, which glimmers here in all its contradictions: something subterranean and celestial, vulnerable and steely at the same time. Best of all, ZHU adds his vocal to the mix on an addendum to the hook, making room in the song’s structure so cannily that it seems like he was there all along. Add this to the arresting house remix of Lana‘s “West Coast” he dropped this morning, and ZHU’s just added two of the best remixes of the year to his resume in the space of half a day. Hall of Fame status.
