GET UP GET DOWN.

sylvanesso
From the delicious Rhye waves of the intro to the addictive, dazzled fullness that kicks in at the end, “Coffee” has got us crushing hard on Sylvan Esso, the new joint venture from Mountain Man‘s Amelia Meath and Megafaun’s Nick Sanborn. Following up last year’s “Hey Mami” and “Play it Right,” this single shares some DNA with our resident slow-burners Wet: “Coffee” takes a folk melody, strips it down to its gorgeous bones, and lets it grow in some quietly wild garden of ambient flash and pulse and buzz. It’s precise, intimate, and graceful, but the hint of grime in the bass reminds you that it’s got dark deeds on its mind. Beware: upon repeat listens, your heart may slowly melt at the way in which Meath’s vocals weave like a ribbon through that hushed, blazing space. The Coffee 12″ is out March 25th on Partisan Records.
