We’ve been down with Phoebe Ryan from day one but recently things have escalated to a whole new level. Her brilliant Kellz / Miguel cover and interstellar follow up “Mine” set the bar pretty high from the jump, and today the emerald pop mermaid returns with her finest offering to date on “Dead”. As the hot sauna synths turn up the temperature and fog up your screen, Phoebe messes with your head like a frozen cocktail of Say Lou Lou and Sky Ferreira, effortlessly laying down Top 40 hooks against a churning, burning 80’s synth backdrop. It’s all starting to feel a bit like Carly Rae Jepsen reimagined for the FADER crowd, and my god that is something we can get seriously down with.
