GOT MY BOYS IN THE WATER.

We spent a few days in Paris this past week with Marina & The Diamonds, and stumbled upon something spectacular last Saturday night at Silencio, where Belgian dreamweavers Oscar & The Wolf were bewitching an adoring crowd in the tight confines of David Lynch’s subterranean social club. Despite no prior knowledge of the act, we spent the night transfixed by their enchanting torch songs and royal blood R&B, which shines like a perfect – if unexpected – balance between Arthur Beatrice and Drake. Further digging reveals their debut album Entity, released earlier this year in Belgium and everywhere else next year, to be every bit as impressive on record as it is live, shimmering throughout with a handful of lethal singles in its surprisingly complex arsenal. Recent single “Princes”, a Top 20 hit in Belgium earlier this year, distills the magic of the LP perfectly in a single fleeting moment, strings and synths glittering in the moonlight as frontman Max Colombe croons a hypnotizing chorus straight out of Lana Del Rey‘s playbook. Keep an eye out for Oscar & The Wolf hitting US shores next year.
