It’s hard to think of a stronger coming out party than Mapei’s snapping, crackling, pop-canonical “Don’t Wait,” and it remains every bit as magical today as it did upon its debut last year. We suspect the same will be true of “Change,” her long-awaited follow up, which reunites the Swedish up-and-comer with her star-making producer Magnus Lidehall and his near-clairvoyant instinct for matching a sparkling melody to a crisp, brazen beat. “Change” gives us a peek of the low and warm end of Mapei’s vocal range; she gathers momentum like a figure skater gracefully lapping the rink before whipping her voice up into the stratospheric, call-to-arms chorus. Consider us doubly excited, then, for Mapei’s forthcoming full-length debut, coming in hot on Downtown Records this autumn.
