We’ve been all about DC duo GEMS since they released their slow-mo stunner “Medusa” late last year, and now they’ve cast their icy, glimmering spell on an unexpected target: Seal. Their “Don’t Cry” cover is deliberate and unhurried, with loops of delicate instrumentation pushing and pulling at a ghostly, industrial breath of a beat. GEMS swaps the hotel-martini vibes of the 90’s original for stark, sophisticated production and a paralyzingly effective performance by vocalist Lindsay Pitts, who takes “Don’t Cry” into the stratosphere and beyond.
