The fact that Cordova‘s “Paradigm” has flown under the radar for this long is nothing short of a crime against humanity. Although the duo – consisting of Vancouver’s electronic gurus U-Tern and AJK – have only released this one track under the guise of Cordova, the side project will for us be forever immortalized as a brilliant ’80s timecapsule. Phil Collins drum fills, brisk cowbell hits and controlled synth fits converge at a sonic cul de sac, which invariably sets the vivid backdrop to a cinematic future, before Roxy Aiston‘s vocal leads you, wide-eyed and wistful, into the synthfinite abyss. Like John Hughes if he owned a Delorean, it’s an incredible instance of future-perfect nostalgia and what should be one of the year’s most heralded masterpieces.
